Job Description
  • To work as a leader of the team in the provision of care and support services for individuals with mental health conditions, learning disabilities, autism. Behaviours of concern and other complex needs, aim to maximise the potential and individuality in accordance with the everyday life principles.
  • To act as a resource and support for the line Manager and be able to take charge in their absence.
  • To lead and guide support staff to always deliver person centred care.
Skills/Abilities

Required

  • Proven Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
    Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to mental health, autism, learning disabilities and many other complex conditions which may include behaviours of concern and acts of self-harm.
  • A commitment to a company which provides support to vulnerable individuals, and which is respectful to individuals wishes.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal, Ability to communicate effectively with Individuals we support, colleagues, Managers, Families and all external professionals.
  • Commitment to training and development.
  • Ability to review and monitor care plans.
    Proven ability to make decisions and solve problems.
  • To be able to communicate at appropriate levels with all residents, relatives, staff, other professionals and outside agencies involved in the care of the Individuals we support.
  • Always consider the Mental Capacity Act in the Individual’s best interests
  • Answer the telephone, take clear messages and contact the manager immediately with any highlighted concerns that may be raised.
    Infection control is an employee responsibility, all staff must follow policies and procedures, all staff must be adequately trained in infection control.
  • Flexible and innovative approach to working.
  • Knowledge of KLOE and legislation
Experience

Required:

  • Experience of working in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Experience of managing/supervising staff.
  • Minimum of 12 months in a similar setting, ideally with people with Mental health, L/D, Autism, complex behaviours of concern.
Experience/Specialist Knowledge/Qualification

Required:

  • Good general education
  • Working knowledge of health and safety issues
  • NVQ level 3 or willing to work towards and achieve within a given timescale.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of therapeutic and non-aversive care models

Main responsibilities:

Care and support:

  • Assist the line manager in the implementation of the philosophies and policies of Prudent Supported Living.
  • Ensure that everyone we support have their needs met through effective assessment and person-centred care planning, review and monitor care plans, update or highlight inaccuracies to the line Manager.
  • Support and participate in Individuals we support social and recreational activities in line with care plans, ensuring activity plans are adhered to.
  • Ensure all medical needs are met and support the Individual’s to advocate his/her own needs and wishes.
  • Facilitate and support Individual’s decision making, promote choice and involvement.
  • Ensure all Support Staff work in a way that demonstrates an understanding and commitment to the rights of people with complex needs.
  • Support and encourage Individual’s to maintain acceptable levels of personal and environmental hygiene.
  • Liaise with other agencies/professionals as necessary in conjunction with the home manager.
  • Record information about Individual’s and ensure communication with support workers.
  • Administer medication in accordance with Company policies and procedures, and ensure all emergencies are dealt with appropriately. Always adhere to the company’s medication policy.
  • Ensure all Individuals we support personal property and clothing is maintained to a high standard and report any requirements to the line Manager.
  • To support the Line Manager with some on-call responsibilities
  • Complete daily and weekly paperwork and ensure this sent to the office weekly
Communication:
  • Arrange and participate in support staff and Individual’s we support meetings as and when required.
Marketing:
  • Actively market the Company and promote positive personal/professional profile within the local community, always ensuring a good reputation of the Support services.
Training and Development:
  • Assist the Line Manager in the induction of new staff members and the provision of in-house training, as delegated to do so.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
  • Attend mandatory training and complete eLearning modules as and when required.
  • Participate in relevant NVQ training to achieve required qualifications.
  • Ensure you read your employee handbook thoroughly and ensure you read a copy of the codes of practice as required.
Health and Safety:
  • Report immediately to the line manager, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by the Individual’s we support, colleagues, self or another.
  • Understand and ensure the implementation of the support services health and safety policy, Emergency fire procedure.
  • Report to the line manager or maintenance any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard.
  • Promote safe working practice within the supported setting.
General:
  • Be responsible for the ordering, receipt and disposal of medication in line with Prudent support’s policy.
  • Carry out administrative tasks as and when required.
  • Ensure all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
  • Notify the line Manager as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and on your return to work from all periods of absence.
  • Ensure the security of the services are always maintained.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
  • Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.
  • Carry out any other tasks that maybe reasonably assigned to you.
