Family Support

Supporting Families and Carers

Having a loved one in supported living can bring a mix of emotions — from relief and hope to uncertainty and concern. At Prudent Supported Living, we recognise the vital

role families and carers play in an individual’s life, and we work to build strong, respectful partnerships every step of the way.

Our aim is not only to provide excellent care and support to the individuals we work with — but also to give families confidence, clarity, and connection throughout the journey.

Open Communication And Trust

We believe that communication builds trust. Families and carers are kept informed and involved in ways that feel right for them — from regular updates to planning meetings, care reviews, or informal check-ins. We welcome questions, feedback, and concerns, and ensure that any issues are addressed promptly and transparently.

Each person supported by Prudent has a named key worker or team lead who acts as a consistent point of contact, helping to build strong and trusting relationships with family members over time.

Involvement That Respects the Individual

We recognise that the individuals we support are adults with their own rights, choices, and autonomy. Where appropriate and with the person’s consent, families are actively included in care planning, decision-making, and goal-setting. We encourage a balance of involvement that upholds each person’s independence while maintaining meaningful family connections.

In cases where individuals have limited capacity to make decisions, we work closely with legal guardians, advocates, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the person’s best interests remain at the centre of support.

Supporting the Whole Family

We understand that transitions — such as moving from family care, residential placements, or school settings — can be emotional and challenging. Our team supports families throughout these changes by offering:

Pre-placement visits and transition planning

Clear information about what to expect

Emotional reassurance and practical support

Help navigating funding, care packages, or reviews

Guidance around the balance between support and independence

A Collaborative Approach

Families and carers often know the person best. We value this insight and see families as important partners in support — not just at the start, but throughout the journey. Whether it’s sharing communication strategies, understanding triggers, celebrating progress, or making long-term plans, we take a collaborative approach that respects everyone’s role.

Feedback and Continuous Improvement

We regularly ask for feedback from families and carers through surveys, review meetings, and open dialogue. This helps us improve what we do and ensure our services continue to meet the needs of individuals and their wider support networks.
